VMWare vSphere

VMware vSphere is an enterprise-grade virtualization platform and hypervisor infrastructure that enables organizations to create, manage, and orchestrate virtual machines and virtualized data center resources. As the foundation of VMware's software-defined data center (SDDC), vSphere provides comprehensive virtualization capabilities for compute, storage, and networking resources across on-premises and hybrid cloud environments.

Before you start

Huntbase signs in to VMWare vSphere with Username and Password. Create the credential in VMWare vSphere first, then keep it to hand for the Connect step.

1. Choose or create a dedicated user for Huntbase in your vCenter identity source.
2. In the vSphere Client, browse to the top-level object Huntbase should see, such as the vCenter Server, and click the Permissions tab.
3. Click Add, select the domain, and search for and select the user.
4. Select the Read Only role, select Propagate to children, and click OK.

Permissions:

• Read Only role, which can view objects and their details but can't perform any actions.

Watch out for

• Propagate to children is off by default. Without it, the user can see only the object you assigned the permission on.
• You need the Permissions.Modify permission privilege on the object to assign permissions.

tip

Use a dedicated, read-only credential for Huntbase where the product allows it. Huntbase only needs to read.

Connect VMWare vSphere

1. Go to Connections and click New connection, or click New connection on the VMWare vSphere product page.
2. On Product, pick VMWare vSphere and choose the Owner.
3. On Details, give the connection a Name and, optionally, a Description.
4. On Connect, fill in the settings and credentials described below.
5. On Verify, review the summary and click Create & check.

Settings

Where your VMWare vSphere lives:

Credentials

The only Method is Username and Password. Enter a Credential label (for example Production), then fill in:

Query it

Once connected, VMWare vSphere can serve these languages in a query tab, and Scout can use it when you ask in Auto:
